新款RAV4的全球首发仪式于5月21日在东京举行。
会场陈列了从1989年东京车展（现JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW）亮相的概念车到第五代现款车型的历代展车。
RAV4时隔六年推出的新款车型提供三种配置：“CORE”“ADVENTURE”，以及强化空气动力学与操控稳定性的“GR SPORT”。
新款RAV4的三种配置。从左至右分别为强调粗犷感的“ADVENTURE”、采用“SUV锤头鲨风格”的“CORE”，以及融入赛车技术的“GR SPORT”。
插电式混合动力系统通过扩大电池容量，将纯电续航里程从95公里提升至150公里，快充模式下约30分钟可充至80%。
本次最大亮点是丰田软件研发平台“Arene”的首次搭载。
Woven by Toyota（WbyT）正在推进研发的软件研发平台“Arene”。“Arene”是为了制造更好的汽车、能够快速研发安全安心且高品质软件的重要基础。
“Arene”由以下三点要素构成：
新款RAV4通过导入Arene，为用户带来更加安全安心的驾乘乐趣。丰田将以此为契机，全面推动SDV*研发。
*SDV：软件定义汽车（Software Defined Vehicle），指以通过软件更新来升级功能为前提而设计和研发的汽车。
全球累计销量超1,500万台的RAV4覆盖180多个市场。WbyT的CEO隈部肇向媒体表示：“收集海量数据，将推动Arene持续进化，助力实现Best in Town（争做当地最好的）汽车制造。”他进一步强调：
“RAV4迈出了SDV量产的第一步。我们将以‘交通事故零伤亡社会’为目标，不断优化Arene。”
在1989年东京车展5年后，初代RAV4开创了CROSS OVER（跨界车）SUV的先河，历经30年发展后，第六代车型将开启丰田的SDV新纪元。
CBO（首席品牌官）西蒙·汉弗莱斯（Simon Humphries）分享了本次研发背后的想法。

for the first 80 years of the 20th Century, there were all kinds of wonderful car designs. But during that time...the everyday car remained remarkably consistent...
若让20世纪80年代的孩子画汽车，画出来的样子恐怕与20世纪50年代无异。
If you asked a child to draw a car in the 1980’s, just as in the 1950’s, it would probably look something like this.
转机出现在1989年东京车展——RAV4概念车的亮相。
But in 1989, at the Tokyo Motor Show...something happened. The concept car that was to become the RAV4...was revealed.
这是一款充满个性、令人会心一笑的车型。
It was quirky. It was a bit of fun.
当时无人预料这款车将重塑汽车的未来。
No-one at the time would have thought, that it was about to change the automotive world.
这辆小型单体式车身SUV改写了历史。
But that’s exactly what this little monocoque SUV did.
因为从那天起，这款CROSS OVER（跨界车）SUV RAV4为消费者创造了全新选择。
Because from that day onwards...the crossover RAV4 gave the everyday car buyer...a new choice.
新选择孕育新可能。
And with new choice, came new opportunity.

The 1st generation was streetwise...but ready for the outdoors...

Now at this point I’d like to tell you that it was all plain sailing but, of course, it wasn’t.

As RAV4 grew in popularity, we faced a dilemma.
最初RAV4是一款户外取向强烈的车型，但随着SUV细分市场逐渐成为主流，RAV4一度面临着变得不够突出、“不上不下”的风险。
We started out with a car with a strong outdoor personality...But as the segment matured around it, RAV4 risked becoming...middle of the road.

Like a rebel rockstar, it had created a new genre of music...only to find itself in the mainstream.

And looking at the athletic rear stance, I’d say we achieved that goal.

Going one step further, each grade now has its own distinct character...The front design is clearly differentiated...
